Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the ColorSpectrum assessment.

How is ColorSpectrum different from MBTI or the Enneagram?

ColorSpectrum is not a replacement for these frameworks — it is a synthesis. Your result includes MBTI correlates, Big Five scores, Holland codes, and Enneagram affinities, all expressed through a color metaphor that is faster to grasp and easier to remember. The color model also avoids the binary type-forcing of MBTI (introvert OR extrovert) by showing a continuous spectrum.

How many questions are in the test?

The assessment has 20 questions. Three questions carry extra weight (1.5× vs 1.0×) because they measure traits with the highest cross-framework predictive validity. Total completion time is typically 4–7 minutes.

What are blended types?

When your two highest color scores are within 15 percentage points of each other AND the two colors are adjacent on the color wheel (Red↔Yellow, Yellow↔Green, Green↔Blue, Blue↔Red), you receive a blended archetype. Non-adjacent pairs (Red↔Green, Yellow↔Blue) cannot blend and fall back to the dominant color.

Can my result change over time?

Absolutely. Core temperament is relatively stable, but life circumstances, growth work, and major transitions shift your balance. We recommend re-taking the test after each significant life chapter. The Color Diary feature lets you track these shifts over time.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your answers are never stored on our servers. Processing happens at the Cloudflare Edge and your result is returned as a signed token we cannot decode server-side. The optional Color Diary lives only in your browser's localStorage. We collect no personal information and require no account.

Can I use my result for hiring or clinical purposes?

No. ColorSpectrum is designed for self-reflection, personal development, and team communication. It is not a validated clinical instrument and should not be used for employment selection, clinical diagnosis, or academic credentialing. Please review our full disclaimer on the Scientific Basis page.

Can I share my result?

Yes — your result page includes share buttons for X (Twitter), LinkedIn, and a copy-link option. You can also generate a shareable poster image. Result links include a signed token and expire after 7 days; after that you will need to retake the test.

Is there a free version and a paid version?

Currently ColorSpectrum is fully free. We may introduce optional in-depth reports in the future, but the core 20-question assessment and all 8 archetype reports will remain free.

Can I retake the test immediately?

Yes. We store your in-progress answers locally for 24 hours so you can resume if interrupted, but you can clear them at any time and start fresh by clicking "Start over" on the test page.

What is the Color Diary?

The Color Diary is a privacy-first journal that stores up to 24 of your past results in your browser's localStorage. It generates a trend chart showing how your four color scores have shifted over time, and produces written insights about patterns in your results. All data stays on your device.
